MY FAVORITE APPS: YOUCAM PERFECT

I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite phone apps here on the blog.  For way too long, I had the same flip phone and kept it so long that I couldn't even find accessories for it anymore.  I was still T9 texting when the iPhone and other smart phones made their debut and changed how we think about our phones forever.

Before I liked having my phone in case of emergencies, but now I need my phone.  It has my photos and is my link to the outside world.  What did I do before I had to check my Instagram feed every 20 minutes or pull up the website for the restaurant we want to go to and make reservations from my phone?  I know if I have kids, they will scoff at me when I tell them that I didn't have a cell phone until high school.  How did we ever find anyone at an event?  It still boggles my mind.

To start out this new feature, I thought I'd share an app I just learned about from the beautiful Ashley from Le Stylo Rouge.  When she told me about it, I was intrigued, but when I saw it in action, I had to have it.  I've never been big on selfies, but that's mostly because I never liked the way I looked in them.  It seemed like every blemish was on display and those cute smile lines were front and center.  Enter YouCam Perfect.  It says it takes the perfect selfie, and I believe it.  At least it's so much better than just my old iPhone camera.  Check out the evidence below.

App Name: YouCam Perfect
Cost: Free
Description:  Take the perfect selfie
Available: Android and iPhone

Review:  I'll let you be the judge.

The quality isn't the best, and I think the app just smudges everything out so that you appear to have luminous skin, but for an Instagram picture, this is a great option.  These pictures have been blown up for the blog, but in normal phone size, they look a lot better.

You get to pick which filter you like.  I think I used "Fresh" in the pictures on the right.  I'm excited to experiment more with this app and see what else it can do.

Have you tried YouCam Perfect before?  What are some of your favorite cell phone apps?  Share below so I can try them out:)

Stay tuned next week for my preferred alternative to Instagram for dreamy photos.

  3. Lovely pics, glad you're happy with them now. My phone is a very simple one, no camera or anything fancy at all. I'd love to be able to have an Instagram account, but for now a really cheap phone suits me very well and costs me very little! CJ xx

    1. I totally agree with you about being ok with a simpler phone. It is crazy how expensive cell phones are now. Through my work, I get a pretty hefty discount, or I would still have a more basic phone. My mom and I were talking the other day and she mentioned how hard it will be for our generation and the next since we have grown up with all these electronic toys that have almost become necessities. Cable is so high, internet, phones, etc. I'd love to simplify, but it's easier said than done:) I hope the sun is shining where you are today, CJ:)

    1. I know! Isn't it crazy how much we need our phones? Oh, well. Before high tech phones, people would probably have said the same thing about their planner:) Hope you're having a great day, Rebecca!

  10. Unfortunately, I have the very first generation iphone and the software is outdated so I can't download any new apps :( But there are plenty I have wanted to try, similar to this , Kari. I can't remember any of the names specifically, but I heard about them here: http://www.abeautifulmess.com/photography-tips-and-inspiration.html

    Good luck :)
