PEICD (PROJECTS EVEN I CAN DO): FIRE FREE SPARKLERS

Sparklers are my favorite type of firework.  They don't make any loud noises or spew out in surprising directions.  You pretty much know what you're going to get.  We didn't get out to actually buy any this year, though, so I decided to make a fire free version of my own.  This project was super simple and took only about 30 minutes to complete.

Supplies Needed:
--About 10 pieces of tissue paper depending on how many sparklers you want
--Cake pop sticks (or any dowel--I found mine in the cake decorating section at Hobby Lobby)
--Hot glue gun
Step 1:  Take one sheet of tissue paper and fold it over a few times until it is a rectangular shape.

Step 2:  Then cut fringe on one of the short sides of the tissue paper up to about 1 inch of the end of the rectangle (i.e. don't keep cutting to the end of the tissue paper rectangle).

Step 3:  Next, put a line of hot glue on the dowel rod and begin rolling the tissue paper.

Step 4:  When you've finished rolling, put another dab of hot glue on the tissue paper to make it stay.  Then ruffle the tissue paper strands about, and you've got a fun sparkler that never burns out!

Make as many colors as you want and put into a fun vase.  I chose a blue mason jar.

Then you can use them to do fun interpretive dances in your backyard..

  1. I am in love with your back garden, it's huge! You lucky girl, I live in a victorian terrance with a postage stamp sized back garden (and no grass) :(
